The GRTU has appointed a committee to liaise with the government and give regular information to businesses about infrastructural work in Valletta.

The appointment of the committee was made following a meeting with senior officials of the Infrastructure Ministry, where it was agreed that information flow would be improved.

"Information used to be given to us in dribs and drabs, frustrating planning by businesses and affecting sales," GRTU Director-General Vince Farrugia said.

"Information will now be given well in advance and we will be issuing regular bulletins to the business community about works in the various zones of the capital."

Mr Farrugia said the meeting had been wide-ranging also also included issues such as temporary parking arrangements and traffic flow while the works were under way.

More meetings are planned, with subjects for discussion including a review of the CVA system and a reduction of reserved parking spaces.

"Parliament, for example, has taken up too many parking spaces in the heart of the capital. And it is unacceptable that civil servants who have their own drivers still insist on having their cars parked outside their offices in reserved parking spots," Mr Farrugia said.

The works discussed with the ministry included the demolition of City Gate - due to start in a few weeks' time - road resurfacing works, the relocation of the Valletta bus terminus, and restoration of buildings.
