The GRTU Chamber of Retailers and Traders, has written to ministers who have started appointing boards to the various parastatal companies, expressing concern over the manner how these boards are being appointed.

It referred to the boards which are of particular importance to the businesses represented by GRTU, such as the Malta Maritime Authority, the Malta Freeport Corporation, Enemalta and the Malta Transport Authority, and complained that despite promises of consultation before nominations were made, such consultation had not happened.

“Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi had assured GRTU that, being a social partner at law, it would be consulted and asked to bring forward its nominations. We disappointingly, however, noticed that this consultation was not carried out and GRTU was not even given the opportunity under the electoral promise number 258 (Appointments to government boards will be made after a public call of applications).”

In its letter to the ministers the GRTU also asked to be given a copy of the approved board members` curriculum vitae so as to understand the relevance of these appointments according to the obligations of the boards.
