Speaker Anġlu Farrugia welcomed in Parliament the members of a committee set up to raise awareness on the Maltese Constitution.

He said that the committee, set up by former MP Franco Debono, would encourage the public to come forward and make suggestions about changes to the Constitution.

Dr Debono said the Constitution could be seen as a symbol of Maltese identity and referred to a commemoration of the riots known as Sette Giugno, which led to the Constitution being set up in 1921.

The working group includes Austin Bencini, Olivier Friggieri, Saviour Chircop, Ray Mangion, Andrew Azzopardi, Veronique Dalli, Trevor Zahra and Aron Mifsud Bonnici.
