Cleanliness has never been one of our attributes in Malta. It is true that men from the Resources Ministry are removing white goods and other similar materials from rubble walls to make them more attractive and to ensure unity around the island.
However, I am very surprised that at a site at Ta' Qali, which is used by thousands of families every warm weekend in winter, patrons of the events organised under the huge tent and even visitors to the Malta Football Association headquarters should first drive through poor roads with a view of the remains of a concrete mixer and unused pipes which seem to be enclosed in some government entity and then face the unsightly view of two abandoned containers in an open area bang opposite the MFA headquarters and the events tent. This specific area should be thoroughly cleaned up as it is also full of various debris and brought into a state which could easily serve as a recreation centre with pruned trees, benches and proper lighting.
I hope the authorities concerned take up my suggestion as it should not command a huge budget yet embellish an area which has its own importance. It would also be a welcome sight to see green wardens around the area.
