A Greek-Australian journalist who received the heart of Doujon Zammit in a transplant last month today paid tribute to the Maltese-Australian and to his parents, who had accepted to donate the organs of their son.

Athens television reporter Kostas Gribilas made his appreciation public in a press conference, exactly a month after the transplant.

Doujon Zammit, 20, was killed in an attack by club bouncers on the Greek island of Mykonos, just days after he arrived there from a visit to Malta.

The transplant operation was held at Onasseio Hospital in Athens, ending a two-month wait by by Mr Gribilas for a new heart.

Mr Gribilas, who is newly married, said he met Mr and Mrs Zammit when they returned to Athens late last month to be present for the naming of a hospital ward after their son.

Doujon's liver and kidneys have also been donated.

According to Greek media, they have been transplanted to a woman in Thessaloniki and a young man in Athens respectively.
