We had a fantastic holiday in Malta over June and July. The weather was wonderful, the sea was beautiful, the food and restaurants were fantastic.

The last two days of our holiday coincided with the transport strike. We returned from a fantastic trip with Captain Morgan and were greeted on our return with no transport. It was late at night with no chance of getting any transport back to our apartment.

There were of course vans with drivers at our location but they were there only to intimidate any other transport person willing to transport travellers back to their hotels. The following day our way to the airport was partially blocked by buses, taxis and red vans.

These people who were now blocking the road were the same people who only a few days before had been asking for tips in gratitude for the work they did transporting tourists back to their hotels.

Perhaps I will re-think my generosity when I visit Malta again next year, and I also wonder how many other tourists will think the same way.

There was a good ending to the lack of transport on our return with Captain Morgan.

A group of 10 tourists including my family decided to walk back to our hotels, a walk that could have taken up to three hours. After about an hour's walk two cars stopped and offered to help five of our group and shortly afterwards a police vehicle stopped and helped my family and two French tourists back to our hotel.

To the owners of the two cars that helped the five tourists and the policeman who stopped to help my family and two French tourists, a big thank you.

To the Transport Federation: your actions and the behaviour of your members were a disgrace and let Malta down.
