Grandparents yesterday zapped along Valletta roads on motorbikes as they celebrated the third anniversary since Parliament upheld a proposal to celebrate Jum in-Nanniet.

On March 12, 2014, Parliament had approved a proposal by Philip Chircop, founder of the Nanniet Malta group, to celebrate Grandparents Day on the second Sunday of October.

Nanniet Malta yesterday held a bike ride event in Valletta in collaboration with Moto Guzzi Club Malta and the Qormi Scouts Group.

Addressing those present, Mr Chircop insisted that grandparents were relevant, especially nowadays, when most young parents worked.

Grandparents, he added, had a right to live a dignified life. There were some who were being denied access to their grandchildren, especially in cases of parents who were going through separation proceedings.
