The GRTU has criticised a decision taken by Valletta Gateway Company, the company which handles cargo services at Grand Harbour, after it rented part of Shed No. 3 at Deep Water Quay to a film company for two months.

The association said this area was on the alternative route given to hauliers because the main road to the wharves was being dug up.

The situation, therefore, had made a bad situation worse and was making it even more difficult for the hauliers to transport containers and trailers between operators and ships.

It said the decision was taken with the knowledge of the Malta Transport Authority, which should actually have facilitated harbour operations, not made them more difficult.

The GRTU said it was also strange how a substantial part of Laboratory Wharf was being occupied with empty containers, not leaving adequate space for loading and unloading operations.

The GRTU insisted that TM should do its duty as regulator and ensure that Grand Harbour operated efficiently.
