Four ambulances and other equipment used by the Red Cross (Gozo branch) have been shipped to Malta as the dispute between the Malta Red Cross and its Gozo branch shows no sign of let up.

The four ambulances along with two boats, a Land Rover and other equipment, were taken to Malta yesterday afternoon.

More equipment is being taken out of the Gozo Red Cross quarters in Ghajnsielem this morning.

The Red Cross said last week that it was suspending the operations of the Gozo Red Cross.

“This to me looks more like a closure rather than a suspension,” a former member of the Gozo branch said today.

He said that while the NGOs Commissioner had said he would intervene in the issue, no contacts appeared to have been made yet.

The Gozo branch insisted last week that the equipment it used was bought for its use by donations from the people of Gozo.

The Red Cross said last week it had suspended the Gozo branch after enduring repeated, serious statutorial breaches by members who believed they were not subject to the regulations of the Society.
