The police are still hunting for the driver of a white pick-up van involved in the hit-and-run incident which killed a 42-year-old Gozitan on Saturday.

The autopsy held yesterday on Joe Grima, from Xewkija, confirmed he died of injuries compatible with being hit by a car, sources said.

The father of one, who worked as a health assistant at Gozo's hospital, was killed near the former heliport in Mġarr Road, Għajnsielem, after he was run over by the passing car, which kept going.

Sources said the police were working hard to track down the van but there were hundreds of similar vehicles on the island. The sources also told The Times that no one had volunteered any information.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon when the victim was out walking with his wife. According to police sources, a 48-year-old relative emerged from a car and the two men started fighting. Mr Grima ended up in the middle of the road and was run over by the van. He was rushed to Gozo's hospital but died shortly afterwards.
