The number of passengers ferried between Malta and Gozo this summer dropped by more than four per cent compared to last summer.

The National Statistics Office said passenger traffic fell to 1,246,897 from 1,302,093. There was also a slight drop in the number of trips made by the ferries, from 5,667 down to 5,652, while the number of vehicles carried across rose slightly to 331,656 from 331,334.
