A building owned by the Church in Gozo will be used as a crisis intervention centre to help those in immediate need.

The centre, which will include bedrooms, sanitary facilities, a kitchen and an office with internet access, is intended as a shelter for vulnerable people until they find a more permanent and adequate solution to their situation. The Gozo Ministry and the Gozitan Diocese signed an agreement on the use of the building.

This was the first time such a centre would operate in Gozo fulfilling a need that has long been felt, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono said. It would run alongside other social services the ministry provided to people in difficult situations, she added.

Gozo Bishop Mario Grech said the centre is a practical way for the Church to show solidarity with people and families going through difficult times.

The centre will be run by social workers and human resources professionals.
