A 25-year-old man from Qala, John Paul Cefai, has been awarded the Youth of the Year Award 2012, organised by the Kerŷgma Movement.

A university student of theology, Mr Cefai has worked with Arka Respite Centre, San Blas Rehabilitation Centre, Caritas Malta and in Ottawa, Canada.

He made valid contributions to various organisations, particularly within the parish of Qala. For the past 13 years John Paul has been deeply involved in the organisation and operation of the community radio, Radju Leħen il-Qala, with the aim of connecting the parish to the home, particularly with the homes of sick people and with the home of the emigrant.

He organises various social and sports activities for youths.

The trophy is awarded every year in honour of the late Rudolph Saliba who was Kerygma Movement’s first president.
