Lions Clubs International, the oldest NGO recognised by the UN, organises a peace poster competition every year for schoolchildren aged 11 to 13, offering them the opportunity to express views on world peace through art. The theme this year was 'Peace begins with me'.

The Lions Club Sliema sponsored the participation of Maltese schoolchildren for this international competition. There were 60 contestants representing four schools. Artist John Martin Borg judged the entries.

Jonathan Young, from the Sacred Heart Seminary in Victoria won the competition and will take part in the international competition. The runners-up were Kristy Caruana (St Michael's), Rebecca Bajada (G.F. Agius de Soldanis Girls JL/Secondary School), and Jolui Grima (Ninu Cremona Lyceum Complex).

Alphonse MacDonald, president of the Lions Club Sliema art foundation, presented the participants with a certificate of appreciation at the G.F. Agius de Soldanis GJL and Secondary School's annual celebration day on December 4. Dr MacDonald presented the winner and runners-up with prizes.
