The unemployment figures published by Eurostat put Malta among the best performing countries in Europe in the employment sector the government said.

It said that the Eurostat report, published today, said that employment in Malta was on the rise.

"The Eurostat report shows that unemployment in Malta in October 2013 was 6.4 per cent, which is 0.1 per cent lower than October 2012. This rate was stable since early this year and unemployment in Malta never increased but actually decreased slightly, according to the report," the government said.

It said the report revealed that the unemployment rate for the under 25s saw a sharp 1.6 per cent decline, from 14.6 per cent in October last year to 13 per cent a year later.
