The government said today that it will pay 80% of the insurance costs of fishing boats through an agreement reach today.

The agreement was signed with the Fishermen's Cooperative.

The cooperative will take out an insurance policy for its members which will be  subsidised up to 80% by the government from May 1 this year. 

More than 1,000 fishing boats will be covered.
