The government has terminated its contract with the Casa Francesco Home for the Elderly in Sta Venera with immediate effect, the Parliamentary Secretariat for the Care of the Elderly said this evening.

It said in a statement it was determined to offer the elderly the best possible service and as part of its services the department for the care of the elderly regularly bought beds from the private sector through a private, public partnership.

This was done through a contract which guaranteed a quality service in line with standards specified by the department.

The secretariat said that after it verified complaints it received in the past hours on the service given for beds bought in this home, the government decided to terminate the contract.

It did not specify what the complaints were.

It said a process was currently underway to relocate the elderly to other homes. Until this process was finalised, the department would be offering a service through its workers.

The department said it took opportune action immediately to ensure the best service for the elderly. It said no one should alarm themselves.
