The Prime Minister and Minister Austin Gatt should explain Malta’s hedging agreement, who was being paid and how much, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said.
Speaking during the annual general meeting of the Ghaqda Nisa Laburisti, Dr Muscat reiterated his promise that the Opposition would fight the utility bills which have been issued in Parliament.
He said that the unions were right to fight against the new rates and the bills issued should be withdrawn.
Dr Muscat said that the PL also wanted an explanation as to how, in spite of the drastic drop in the price of oil and Dr Gatt’s promise that should this happen, the tariffs would go down, these had increased by 185 per cent. The minister even declared that the bills were cheaper than one was expecting, he said.
