The government is seeking legal advice about a tax loophole referred to as hybrid loan mismatch, the Finance Ministry said.

It said that while it wants to safeguard Malta’s interests, the government wanted the directive amended and the loophole removed.

The government noted that at the last Ecofin meeting in May, Malta disagreed with the wording of the amending directive, but not with the object of the Parent Subsidiary Directive.
