The government’s spring hunting proposal to the European Commission was for a three-week season, excluding Sundays and public holidays, starting on April 10 and authorising a daily bag limit of four birds with a maximum seasonal bag limit of 10 birds per licence.

This evening, the government published the official correspondence between the Maltese authorities and the European Commission concerning the opening of a spring hunting season this year.

The government had originally proposed authorising a special licence to 2,500 hunters at a minimum €50 fee.

In a second letter to the director general environment, the government had proposed that in view of exceptional circumstances, mainly due to time constrains, this year’s hunting season would be opened for one week only and for a total bag of 7,500 birds.
