The government will soon be taking a decision on the structure of the council for economic and social development, General Workers Union deputy secretary general Michael Parnis said today.

Speaking at a General Workers Union meeting, Mr Parnis said the MCESD should ideally be composed on the same lines as the ECOSOC, which represents employers, employees (unions) and civil society.

"The government cannot consult with itself," Mr Parnis said, referring to the government presence in the MCESD.

He said that a solution for the current council, on which the Forum Unions Maltin was being refused membership, was to have five representatives from each sector. This would enable Forum's representation.
