The government confirmed today that Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando is to lead a Maltese parliamentary delegation for a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe next week.

The delegation will also include Nationalist MP Robert Arrigo, Labour MP Leo Brincat and Joe Debono Grech.

Mr Debono Grech was not elected on March 8 and has submitted his nomination for the casual elections, but he is still recognised as a member of the COE parliamentary assembly until the Maltese Parliament nominates a new delegation.

Among the subjects to be debated during this session are access to safe and legal abortion in Europe and immigration from sub-Saharan Africa.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic, are among the leading personalities due to address the assembly.
