The Government is committed to build the new campus of the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said this afternoon.

The project was launched by the former government.

He praised the model of teaching used at Mcast – one that is based on hands-on experience – and said that the EU was looking at this type of model as a best practice.

Dr Muscat said that Mcast had started out as an institute that gave students a second chance.

“We must now aspire to it becoming a first choice – so that students consider it at the same level as other post-secondary options… Mcast students are not second class students but first class,” Dr Muscat said.

He was speaking during the launch of the second edition of the Mcast Expo that showcases the college’s 170 full-time and 300 part-time courses.

The Expo, at the Paola campus, will be open until Saturday. Opening times will be from 9am to 8pm until Thursday. On Friday it will be open till 7pm while on Saturday it will be open until 1pm.
