The Malta Employers Association (MEA) feels that good governance and the respect towards independent institutions is of utmost importance for businesses to continue to prosper.

During a meeting with PN Leader Simon Busuttil, MEA President Arthur Muscat said this afternoon that while his association does not want to enter the political debate, it gives good governance and economic planning its highest importance.

He welcomed the publication of two documents by the PN on good governance and on 'An economy for the people'  saying these were bold step in the right direction to project the opposition party as an alternative government.

“It is important that we know where we stand and what to expect from those who in the future can be running this country,” he said.

Referring to the latest political developments, Dr Busuttil said that that one of the lessons to be learnt was the importance of autonomous and independent institutions.

He said that the PN wanted to extend the bi-partisan agreement already in place for such institutions such as the National Audit Office and the Ombudsman to other important functions such as that of the President of Malta.

He said that only in this way can the country continue to develop and prosper while making sure that there are strong institutions to look out after the interests of the electorate.
