Good Friday processions are being held in several localities in Malta and Gozo this evening.

The processions are held to commemorate the death of Christ before he is risen again on Easter, next Sunday.

Bible scenes are being brought to life by men and women in costume who are walking behind statues representing the stages of the Lord’s passion. Others are fulfilling vows as they carry large wooden crosses and heavy chains. Some are walking barefoot or on their knees.

Many are watching the procession on the sides of the road, some are lost in prayer oblivious to the stalls selling qubbajt, figolli, karamelli tal-ħarrub and qagħaq tal-appostli.
