Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi argued this morning that the MLP’s election promises showed it did not have confidence in the Maltese.

Dr Gonzi told a large crowd in Birkirkara that the Malta Labour Party had not changed its negative mentality. The party had been against EU accession and euro adoption. Now the MLP’s promises meant that young children would have to repeat a class whereas the PN was promising more opportunities in education.

Dr Gonzi also spoke about the PN’s proposal to revise tax bands by raising the thresholds of the 15 per cent and 25 per cent income tax rates, and reducing the maximum tax rate from 35 per cent to 25 per cent for those who earn up to €60,000 (Lm25,758).

“I am confident that the Maltese will make the best choice and vote for the party which has a great vision for this country. This is the moment to build on what we have achieved so far,” he said.

The event was also addressed by a number of PN candidates, among them former minister John Dalli and Environment Minister George Pullicino.
