A traditional contest called Il-Ġostra connected with religious festas celebrated in seaside towns was re-enacted yesterday in St Julians marking the feast of the town's patron. In this game, a wooden pole smeared with lard is secured to a barge and contestants have to make their way up the slippery slope in an attempt to get one of the flags and so earn themselves a prize.
