The award winning play God's Official is making a comeback in Malta this weekend.

Last performed here four years ago, the play stars John Montanaro, Alan Paris and Steve Casaletto and is being held at St James Cavalier in Valletta.

The theme of the play, which won the Spirit of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, is simple: To some people football is a matter of life and death, to others it is far more important than that.

Robert Farquhar's play is a dark comedy about two working class English lads, Degsy and Cliff who, like so many of their contemporaries, escape their relatively unremarkable lives by immersing themselves in their local football team.

Their team is relegated on the last day of the season after a series of decidedly dodgy refereeing decisions conspire to send them down. But Degsy isn't going to take this one lying down. Too many facets of his life seem to be going wrong and this is one area where he believes he can make a difference. By kidnapping the referee...

God's Official has received wide critical acclaim across the UK and Malta.

The play is being produced by Mellow Drama and will be held at St James Cavalier on June 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27 and 28. All shows start at 8 p.m. and there will be a special late night show on June 28 at 10 p.m.

Tickets for the opening weekend are at a reduced rate of €12 and €10. Tickets for all other performances are at €15 and €12.

For booking one may contact St James Cavalier on 2122 3200 or by e-mail at boxoffice@sjcav.org. Alternatively one can book at the theatre in person seven days a week.

Due to the strong nature of the content only people aged 16 and over will be admitted.
