Labour whip Godfrey Farrugia and Foreign Minister George Vella have returned to Parliament after having been sidelined by medical problems.

Dr Farrugia underwent cancer surgery in London while Dr Vella underwent heart bypass surgery in Malta after being taken ill while leading a delegation in China.

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil and Speaker Anglu Farrugia were among those who welcomed them. Parliament reconvened today after the summer recess.

The House also expressed condolences to Nationalist MP Mario Galea following the passing away of his mother Lina. Condolences were expressed by the Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition and Dr Farrugia on behalf of the government.
