The damage sustained by one of GO's submarine cables between Malta and Sicily was caused by a third party, the company said.

It said in a statement this evening that all efforts to repair the fault continued throughout last night, all day today and are still ongoing.

A GO technical team is currently in Sicily to speed up the fault rectification process.

GO said that at first indication of a fault on international connectivity impacting internet service, immediate action was taken to route the internet traffic to the second submarine cable, reducing the service degradation and improving internet performance.

Efforts by GO's technical teams are now directed into normalising this situation as fast as possible by rolling out contingency plans, it said.

GO apologised for the inconvenience and reassured customers it would continue to do its utmost to bring the internet service back to normal in the shortest time possible.
