GO plc has committed to planting 3,000 trees in conservation areas managed by Nature Trust in a bid to give a helping hand in offsetting carbon dioxide emissions. The initiative was launched this morning with tree planting at Wied Ghollieqa Nature Reserve, next to the University.

The initiative is the second phase of GO’s eco-friendly campaign which started at this year’s edition of Earth Garden Festival in Ta’ Qali when GO had urged its customers to take their used top-up cards – mobile, Internet and fixed line – with them and deposit them in the recycling box. GO had pledged to plant a tree for every 5 used-up top-up cards received from its customers to help re-energise the local environment.

GO Chief Executive Officer, David Kay said: “A word of thanks goes to our customers who gave their full support to GO’s green initiative at Earth Garden. By working together to plant more trees, we can contribute towards offsetting the effects that Carbon Dioxide has on global warming. Sustainability - now more than ever before - is at the heart of businesses around the world. By integrating environmental demands with sound business performance, we aim to create an expanding circle that benefits a wide range of stakeholders and society at large.

“Our effort at tree-planting underpins GO’s commitment to sustainable development and is hugely in keeping with the principles of sound corporate social responsibility," Mr Kay said.
