UEFA has awarded GO the media rights to the UEFA Champions League for the next three seasons as from next August, the company said this afternoon.

Later PBS said Pit was given exclusive free-to-air Champions League and Europa League media rights in Malta for three seasons starting from 2012-13.

GO said it has acquired the rights in respect of all live matches, delayed matches, highlights on both nights and the magazine programme.

The company said it will ensure that football fans throughout Malta will have access to eight live matches being broadcast each match night across the GO sports family of pay channels. Go will also broadcast matches on mobile and internet.

GO already holds the exclusive rights to the Italian Serie A league until 2012 and the Barclays Premier League until 2013.

A total of 145 live matches per season will be broadcast on Go sports commencing with the play-offs in August, and continue through the group stage between September and December.

GO Sports will continue with full coverage of the knock-out rounds in the new year and progress to final knockout phase which culminates with the final match in May, an event viewed by around 145 million people via television. It also has the rights to the UEFA Super Cup.

PBS TO TRANSMIT MATCHES

Meanwhile, PBS said  UEFA has awarded it exclusive free-to-air Champions League and Europa League media rights in Malta for three seasons starting from 2012-13.

TVM will be showing the best UEFA Champions League match live each Wednesday starting from the preliminary rounds, through the group stage and the knockout phase, up to the final: a total of 17 matchdays as well as the UEFA Super Cup Final between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.

TVM will also be showing a weekly Champions League highlights programme.

PBS will alsobe broadcasting the best match each week from the UEFA Europa League on Thursday: over 15 matchdays from the group phase right through to the final. Each match will be followed by a highlights programme.

PBS will also be locally streaming all the above matches via  internet.
