I refer to the article on glaucoma screening (March 18). Though no mention was made that the glaucoma screening equipment in the health centres had been donated by Lions Clubs of Malta from funds raised by the clubs and through a grant from LCIF (Lions Clubs International Foundation), the Lions of Malta are proud and glad that at last through their hard, unselfish work the Maltese people are becoming more aware that glaucoma can result in blindness.
The Lions Clubs of Malta have been in the forefront to make people aware of this silent disease. Hence, perhaps a simple mention that the Lions Clubs of Malta had donated the glaucoma screening equipment would have been in order.
Lions Clubs International have since its institution in 1917 been associated with projects involving eyesight and blindness. The Lions Clubs in Malta have for years been involved in similar projects. The donation of the glaucoma screening equipment 15 years ago and the donation of new equipment is evidence of the commitment of the Maltese Lions to help in such projects.
