Spain's Iban Mayo, of the Saunier Duval team, won the 19th stage of the Giro d'Italia from Treviso to Terme di Comano yesterday.

Mayo was part of the decisive attack on the rain-soaked stage and went clear alone on the final climb. Italy's Giovanni Visconti finished 43 seconds behind Mayo, with compatriot Marco Marzano third, one minute four seconds adrift.

Italy's Danilo Di Luca, of the Liquigas team, finished three minutes behind Mayo but retained the overall race lead.

Today's 20th stage is a 43km individual time trial from Bardolino to Verona. The three-week Giro d'Italia ends in Milan tomorrow.
