A schoolgirl, 15, was hospitalised this afternoon after she fell off a school bus.
The incident happened at Zejtun in the early afternoon. It appears that the girl fell when a door opened suddenly. Her condition was described as grievous by the police.
The incident recalled another case, in 2003, when a Yugoslav student was badly injured after falling out of the back door of a school van in Tal-Qroqq and was run over by a mini-bus.
A departmental inquiry had found that the vehicle in question was carrying 28 school children when it only had seats for 12. The inquiry board recommended that the number of students should not exceed the number agreed to, that students should not have to stand and that the vehicle should be appropriate to carry students.
