A 26-year-old woman was yesterday charged with defiling a 16-year-old girl by forcing her into prostitution.

The woman, from Birżebbuġa, pleaded not guilty to defilement, participating in sexual acts with the minor, involvement in running a brothel and threatening and insulting the girl. Magistrate Doreen Clarke, who presided over the arraignment, ordered a ban on the names of both the accused and the minor. The woman was remanded in police custody.

Police Inspector Raymond Aquilina prosecuted.
