A 19-year-old was placed under a probation order for three years after he admitted to defiling an 11-year-old girl and to having a sexual relationship with her.

The young man was also placed under a treatment order for three years during which time he will be given psychological assistance. He was also ordered not to communicate with the girl in any way.

He admitted to the charges before Magistrate Josette Demicoli who ordered a ban on the publication of his name in order to protected the identity of the victim.

“You have to understand that what you did was not right and this will be addressed by giving you the help you need,” the magistrate told him as she warned him about the importance of abiding by the probation order and not approaching the minor.

Police Inspector Sylvana Briffa prosecuted while lawyer Mark Vassallo represented the accused.
