Brazilian forward Gilmar has agreed to extend his contract with Naxxar Lions for another three years.

A new, long-term deal for Gilmar represents something of a coup for the Lions as the 25-year-old has been attracting interest from a host of top clubs, including champions Hibs and Valletta, after an outstanding season.

Gilmar was instrumental in helping the Lions retain their Premier League status, fittingly scoring the second goal in the decisive 2-1 victory over rivals Mosta last Friday.

The Brazilian’s decision to commit his future to the Lions is unlikely to deter his suitors but any club wanting to sign Gilmar, who is keen to continue his career overseas, must negotiate with Naxxar.

Meanwhile, Floriana have secured the services of goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona for the next three seasons. Calleja Cremona, 20, has earned a permanent deal with the Greens after leaving a very positive impression since joining the club on loan from Pembroke Athleta in January.

Floriana are expected to offer new deals to Vito Plut, Matteo Piciollo, Emerson Marcelina and Amadou Samb while Igor Coronado has agreed a new two-year contract.

Elsewhere, Żebbuġ Rangers, who have been relegated from the Premier League, are set to appoint Alfred Attard as their new coach.

Attard, who worked in the youth sector of Pietà Hotspurs this season, will succeed Italian Alfonso Greco.
