Maltese giant Samuel Deguara is being considered for the National Basketball League of Canada... and his incredible height is certainly playing a role!

A former Luxol and Treviso Benetton player, Deguara, 24, stands 2.26 metres tall and weighs 141 kilograms.

In a piece on Deguara, Canadian sports writer Chris Zelkovich says the Niagara River Lions coach Ken Murray believed Deguara had the potential to get a chance at cracking the NBA.

He is the largest human being I have ever seen

“Deguara, who has been playing in the top leagues of Europe since he was 16, is a sight to behold. He makes 6-foot-10 (2.1 metres) team-mates look like kids, can dunk without his size-22 feet leaving the floor and makes a basketball all but disappear into his massive hands.

“He is the largest human being I have ever seen," coach Murray said adding he was 6-7 (2 metres) and Deguara made him feel tiny.

But in spite of his size, Deguara is still spending most of his time with the River Lions on the bench as he is “too slow”.

He is, however, working to get better and believes that when the time comes for him to play he would show what he is able to do.
