A 900-metre squared stainless steel net has been anchored to the rocks at the popular swimming area at Ghar Lapsi to avert danger from falling rocks.
Visiting the site this morning, Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi said a danger of falling rocks existed in a substantial part of the coastline near Ghar Lapsi.
Geotechnical engineer Adrian Mifusd said the net, which has been anchored to the rock with 200 stainless steel bolts and a cable, will provide the necessary safeguards.
The project, which cost €150,000, was implemented by the Infrastructure Ministry based on a study that had been carried out by the previous administration.
Mr Mizzi said he had insisted that the project be concluded within two months but it actually took less than that for it to be finished.
The problem, he said, had first been noted in 2011.
