First Anglu Farrugia, now Dr KMB, both making it known that Muscat's Labour Movement, Party, Conglomeration, whatever it is, no longer espouses the principles of old: what's going on?

Now don't get me wrong, it would be disingenuous of me to pretend to you that there is any love lost on my part for the Labour Party of old. Not to put too fine a point on it, the way the Malta Labour Party sometimes acted in the past was anathema to anyone who had anything approaching respect for the rule of law.

So the fact that Farrugia and KMB mourn its passing should be cause for people like me stand up and deliver three hearty cheers.

Forgive me, if you will, though if you don't, I don't much care, but it just ain't happening for me. Maybe it's because the Ghosts of Labour Past are way too corporeal, in the form of the people with whom Muscat has surrounded himself, for me to believe that this particular large moggy has changed its spots.

Maybe it's because, on the other hand, that the new way of doing things that Muscat has espoused, this being all things to all men along with those shiny, happy faces all over the billboards (just crying out to be grafitteed and memed, incidentally) grates as much as the bad old way.

Or maybe it's the inconsistencies that scream their name loud as soon as some pressure is applied to the right points that make me itch in the vicinity of Labour. You know the sort of thing I mean, I'm sure. Consider the strange way Labour's Lil'Elves and Peculiar Pundits react to inquiries on their hero's way of doing things: they call it mud-slinging and divisiveness.

The fact that they've been doing the same all the time they've been in Opposition, from Maria l-Maws on, is as nothing to them because when they do it, it's a legitimate tactic.

Consider the inherent, but totally ignored, inconsistency in Muscat's own words on Sunday: he allows people to whom he delegates work to do their own thing, but at the same time, his party hacks attack Austin Gatt for not taking responsibility for the alleged corruption in his area of responsibility.

Two weights and three yardsticks, or what?

It's a heinous crime not to mention a blinking clock but it's perfectly ok to skate around blocks of dope, because needs must, and all that. Don't do what Muscat does, do what he says and you'll be alright, but if you intend voting for him on the basis of what he says, might I make so bold as to suggest that you take a peek at what he and his party do, when push comes to shove, and when duty makes way for political expediency?
