George Clooney has revealed he would not let a birthday hangover stop him from riding roller coasters with his wife Amal at the premiere of his latest movie at Disneyland.

The Hollywood heart-throb, who turned 54 on May 6, attended the world premiere of sci-fi adventure Tomorrowland: A World Beyond, at the theme park in Anaheim, California, with his wife and her niece and said they would be taking a ride on Space Mountain while they were there.

Walking the blue carpet alone after posing for pictures with Amal, he said: “She’s been here more than me. My favourite ride is Space Mountain, which we are going to go ride on today.”

Asked how he had spent his first birthday as a married man, after tying the knot with the human rights lawyer last September, he said: “By drinking, unfortunately!”

Clooney plays a former boy-genius inventor in the adventure movie, teaming up with a teenage girl to travel to a place somewhere in time and space where anything is possible. He said it was the boundless potential in the film that made it so alluring. “I loved how hopeful it was, I thought it was a hopeful film and I don’t often do hopeful films so I liked it,” he said.

“I am an optimist but I don’t often do hopeful films. I think that it is a fantasy but I do love the idea that the future is up to you and there is something you can do about it.”

The film features a wide array of futuristic gadgets and Clooney said he hoped he lived to enjoy a few.

“I honestly wouldn’t mind a jetpack being around, if you think about the traffic you could avoid,” he said.
