Foreign Minister George Vella yesterday described the work being done by Phyllis Muscat, head of the CHOGM task force, as “excellent”, saying he had not seen anything like it before.

“We are getting continuous reports from the Commonwealth secretariat in London saying that they are so impressed and that Malta is very advanced in its preparations,” he said, referring to the Commonwealth heads of government summit due to be held in Malta in November.

Malta’s High Commissioner to the UK, Norman Hamilton, was also getting very good feedback from his Commonwealth contacts, he said, adding that it was not fair Ms Muscat “was so harshly criticised just because she had a bad day”.

Dr Vella was referring to an interview published by The Sunday Times of Malta last March, in which Ms Muscat’s basic knowledge of the event seemed to be lacking and she could not reply to a number of questions.
