George Michael’s comeback single is heading towards being one of his biggest flops in the past two decades.

True Faith looks likely to miss out on even a Top 20 place, despite a media blitz of interviews and releasing the track for charity.

Midweek chart figures show the track is set to enter the charts at 26 tomorrow if sales continue as they are.

Only one of Mr Michael’s singles has performed more poorly in the past 20 years, when the track Round Here limped to number 32. However, that was the fifth single from his hit Patience album.

The singer, who has covered the New Order track for his new release and is giving the proceeds to Comic Relief, remained upbeat.

He told fans not to be surprised by the position and added: “U r doing me proud so far.”

Michael did a whirl of radio interviews to plug the new track, his first steps back into the limelight after being jailed last year for drug driving.
