In his article ‘Let’s be fair’, which was published last week, Lou Bondì made the assertion that George Abela, today the President of Malta, had “...worked with the Electoral Commission which gerrymandered the 1981 election”.

For the sake of correctness and public information, it is worth pointing out that Dr Abela was only appointed for the first time to serve on the Electoral Commission on July 15, 1986. The dates speak for themselves and do not require further comment.

Dr Abela served on the Commission for subsequent consecutive periods till he declined his renomination of August 30, 1989.
