The Institute for Sustainable Development has announced a new diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The programme will focus on an increasingly important technology which is reinforcing strategy and policy making.

This course will provide the first opportunity for formal training for many who are interested in developing skills in this specialised discipline.

The programme is designed to expand students' understanding of GIS over the period of study. As a result, the course programme incorporates a number of study units aimed at the teaching of basic concepts of GIS and its application alongside hands-on sessions that allow the students to effectively apply their new skills.

The study programme is carried out over three years of part-time (evening) studies. Each year, the students will have to complete 30 credits for a total of 90 credits at the end of the three years.

In the first two years, students will follow seven study units each year. In the final year, students will complete five study units and an essay of 5,000 words. Lectures will be scheduled twice a week, with the exception of block lectures delivered by the visiting lecturers.

Interested participants should refer to the University website for online application and the Institute for Sustainable Development for more information.
