Symptoms suggestive of gastroenteritis have been reported in 10 wards in Mount Carmel Hospital, with two cases admitted to Mater Dei, the Environmental Health Authorities said.

They said that an immediate investigation was initiated by the Superintendent of Public Health to analyse the situation - stool samples were taken and infection-control measures were immediately put in place, with the isolation of affected cases and infection control procedures.

An inspection, the authorities said, was being carried out at the hospital kitchen at Mount Carmel Hospital.

A regular follow-up of the situation was ongoing.
