"The international market has been suffering from high price levels and erratic movements for the last few months mainly as a result of the instability in the Mediterranean region, as well as uncertainty in the economical recovery of the Euro financial crisis," the company said.
The LPG Mix used in Malta is made up of 80% butane and 20% propane. During the month of August, the price of butane increased substantially to over US$1,000 per ton, it added.
"Through its prudent purchasing policy, Liquigas has managed to maintain price at €16.00 for the 12kg cylinder from January to April 2011 and at €16.60 for the same cylinder from May to August 2011. The constant higher prices mentioned above have now resulted in this increasing to €17.00 that is an increase of just over 2% on the previous price"
The above are final prices as approved by the Malta Resources Authority and are the maximum prices of Liquigas for LPG/propane on the Maltese market. Distributors of Liquigas cylinders are not authorised to charge additional prices over and above the above prices.
