10,300 vehicles were declared scrapped between June 2014 and last month, Transport Malta said today.

It said the scheme to regularise vehicles which were declared as garaged but were actually scrapped without the authorities being informed has been extended to the end of September 2017 but if the vehicle was disposed of after November 1, 2013 without notice, a fee of €150 has to be paid instead of the €100 paid under the scheme so far.

Since November 1, 2013, scrapping or de-registering a vehicle is only permitted if the owner presents a certificate of destruction issued by an authorised facility. The certificate confirms that the vehicle was transferred in accordance with the Waste Management (End-of Life Vehicles) Regulations.

For further information one may contact Transport Malta by calling on 8007 2393. Alternatively, one may visit us at the Vehicle Licensing Unit at the A3 Towers, Arcade Street, Paola from Monday to Friday between 7:30am and noon.
