At least six of the gangland-style murders seen in the past two years have a common thread that has its root in a fall out between Paul Degabriele, is-Suldat and Joseph Cutajar, il-Lion.
The sequence and alleged motives of the murders is explained in The Sunday Times of Malta today.
It all started on March 15, 2012 when Il-Lion claimed he had been ambushed outside his underground garage in Marsascala.
The men, Stephen Zammit and Kevin Gatt, both 32, ended up dead, as a result.
But word in the street was that they had been sent by Paul Degabriele is-Suldat after the two former associates fell out. In the months that followed both men ended up dead, first il-Lion and then is-Suldat in an apparent revenge attack.
Last Wednesday, 68-year-old Pietru Cassar (il-Ħaqqa) – the man suspected to be behind Degabriele's murder and the failed bombing of his car in October of last year was killed.
Eight days earlier, 58-year-old Joe Galea, known as il-Ġilda was shot dead, however, it's not clear how his death was connected to the rest.
